7 people wounded in 2 separate shootings in Jacksonville

Both shootings happened at nightlife establishments

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Seven people are recovering from gunshot wounds from two separate shootings that happened Sunday morning in Jacksonville, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

The first shooting happened in Jacksonville’s Brentwood neighborhood.

Officers responded to North Main Street near East 22nd Street around midnight Sunday to a report of people shot.

Investigators said six people were leaving an after-hours pop-up nightclub when they were shot. Multiple people were seen firing in the area.

At this time, it’s unclear if the victims were targeted or not. A witness told News4JAX that three people in hoods told them to leave the area before gunfire was heard shortly after.

Police said the six victims transported themselves to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The victims were two women and four men. One person was an adult in their late teens. The other five people were in their early 20s. JSO didn’t specify the ages of the victims.

No other injuries were reported. However, nearby businesses and vehicles were also hit by gunfire.

Detectives interviewed a witness at JSO Headquarters. They hope to obtain surveillance video from nearby businesses once those businesses open.

The second shooting happened in Jacksonville’s Paxon neighborhood.

Officers responded to a strip mall located at 700 Edgewood Avenue around 2 a.m. Sunday to a report of a person shot.

Investigators said a woman in her 40s was leaving Paxon Liquors and Lounge when she was shot. Investigators don’t believe she was targeted and was the victim of a stray bullet.

The woman transported herself to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported.
