Pedestrian dies in crash on Jacksonville’s Westside

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man died after attempting to walk across a Westside street early Thursday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP said a man driving a sedan was traveling west in the outside lane of Normandy Boulevard, and the man was walking southbound on the outside shoulder of Hammond Boulevard just after midnight.

Troopers said the man attempted to cross the road but stumbled into the outside lane of Normandy, in front of the approaching car.

The car then crashed into the pedestrian.

The pedestrian was transported to a hospital where he died.

According to News4JAX records, this death marks the 85th traffic fatality and the 23rd pedestrian death in Duval County this year.
