Fertilizer inadvertently released into air by company covers cars, causes stir in Jacksonville neighborhood

No description found

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – People in a north Jacksonville neighborhood were upset and confused after their cars were covered by a mysterious dust Friday night.

At first, there were rumors that an airplane had dropped waste in the area, but according to JFRD, that wasn’t actually the case.

JFRD said the dust that covered several blocks of the San Mateo neighborhood was actually humic powder that came from a nearby company that distributes fertilizer, Humic Growth Solutions.

The company had an apparent malfunction and the fertilizer that is usually suppressed got out, JFRD said.

JFRD said the hazmat team tested the substance and a spokesperson said it wasn’t anything to be too alarmed about.

But JFRD said people should not ingest it.
