Jacksonville Fire and Rescue mourns loss of beloved firefighter following cancer battle

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department announced the passing of one of its engineers on Tuesday.

Ian M. Church served with JFRD since Feb. 20, 2021, and was recently promoted to Engineer in June. Church passed away suddenly due to a courageous battle with cancer, according to a GoFundMe post.

“We are heartbroken to share that Ian Church, a devoted firefighter and cherished husband and father, has passed away suddenly due to a courageous battle with cancer,” the GoFundMe said. “His unexpected departure leaves behind his loving wife, Brittany, and their three young children, who are now facing an unimaginable loss. Ian dedicated his life to protecting others, and now, in their time of need, we seek your support to help his family navigate this challenging period. Contributions to this fund will provide essential support for Brittany and their children as they adjust to life without him and honor the legacy of a remarkable man who gave so much to others.
