JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Two JEA line workers were hurt Tuesday in an incident that knocked out power to parts of the University of North Florida’s campus.
Jacksonville Fire and Rescue said the two workers were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. One of them was released from the hospital after a few hours.
JEA said an electrical cabinet failed on the circuit causing the outage, but no other details were released because it is still investigating.
A UNF spokesperson said the core campus power went out just before noon but it was restored by 3 p.m.
No UNF classes were canceled and no university operations were affected, the spokesperson said.
Student Terry Telisma said the campus was abuzz as the lights went out.
“On behalf of the UNF community, we send our support and well wishes for quick recovery to the two JEA workers who were injured on campus today,” UNF President Moez Limayem said in a statement.
