36-year-old Middleburg man driving ATV dies after slamming into stopped truck in Fleming Island: FHP

FLEMING ISLAND, Fla. – A 36-year-old Middleburg man died Friday after the ATV he was driving slammed into a stopped truck in Fleming Island.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a truck was sitting still in the Holeshot Powersports parking lot entrance near Hibernia Road around 10:15 a.m. when it was struck by a Polaris ATV that was traveling north on the grassy shoulder of US 17.

The Polaris ATV struck the right rear of the truck and flipped over, FHP said. The driver of the ATV, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was taken to a local hospital where he later died. A 40-year-old passenger who was wearing a seatbelt in the ATV also suffered minor injuries.

FHP said around 11:45 a.m. there was no road blockage but asked people in the area to use caution as troopers investigated the scene.
