Pet adoption event aims to ‘Clear the Shelters’ in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The City of Jacksonville’s Animal Care and Protective Services will host a special adoption event this Labor Day weekend as part of the nationwide “Clear the Shelters” campaign.

ACPS will waive all adoption fees from Aug. 30 to Sept. 2. Please note a $20 city license fee may still apply for Duval County residents.

According to the city, ACPS currently has almost 200 dogs and 70 cats in the shelter.

“This is the time of year when shelters across the country see an increase in intake, and we’re hoping that many of our pets are able to find their families this weekend,” Chief Michael Bricker said.

Where: ACPS at 2020 Forest Street in Jacksonville

When: Aug. 30 to Sept. 2

Time: Friday: 12-7 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Monday: 12 to 4 p.m.

Since 2015, more than 1 million shelter pets have found homes through Clear the Shelters, according to a release.
