FDOT launches anti-littering campaign

Litter Less, Live More’s mission is to foster a sense of responsibility among the public.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Florida Department of Transportation is shining a brighter light on an issue it says is not only ugly but dangerous too: littering.

In Northeast Florida, it is a big problem.

Duval County is near the top of the charts when it comes to the amount of junk on its roads and highways.

Last year, FDOT collected more trash in Duval than in Broward County.

For September, FDOT will focus on drivers who may not be aware of the importance of securing loads while driving on Jacksonville highways.

People are also asked to not toss wrappers, bottles and other trash out of their windows.

It’s part of their “Litter Less, Live More” campaign.

Road crews may do more involved cleanups, including blocking interstate lanes for safer removal of debris.

The department also may work with law enforcement to “help remind people not to trash the road.”

FDOT encourages groups to consider participating in the Adopt-A-Highway program, in which they are assigned a portion of a road to help keep clean.

ABOUT LITTER LESS LIVE MORE (From FDOT):

Launched in 2024 by District Two of the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), the Litter Less Live More campaign is committed to enlightening the public about the safety and environmental impacts of littering. By leveraging community engagement and educational resources, the campaign strives to encourage the public to recognize their role in maintaining transportation safety and their duty to contribute to the cleanliness of our transportation corridors.
