Families left to deal with flooded-out cars after morning downtown Jacksonville downpour

Many had to be towed

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Families were left to clean up Wednesday afternoon after heavy rain and flooding hit the downtown Jacksonville area during the morning rush hour.

Reports said more than 2 inches of rain fell between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. near Jaguars stadium.

Some drivers were left dealing with flooded cars.

Ty Stallings and DiBrenda Brown got the call from their daughter Wednesday morning.

“What the heck done happened?” Stallings asked when he got the call from his daughter that her car was flooded out while trying to cross Gator Bowl Blvd. across from EverBank Stadium.

“I got the call when I was at work that she was flooded out and she told me she was on Gator Bowl drive. The things we do for our children in the midst of a storm,” said Brown who was also helping dry out the car Wednesday afternoon.

“She was taking an alternate route to get to UNF and apparently she said the GPS guided her through this way and she went out and got flooded,” Stallings said.

And now, as is the case with many retired parents, it’s mom and dad’s job to come to the rescue.

“I wanted her to get to school and since I’m retired good thing I got nothing but time,” Stallings said.

This family is actually one of the lucky ones as the car is still drivable.

Many drivers this morning were not so fortunate as tow trucks were dispatched across the city when Mother Nature gave Jacksonville its worst.
