JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – By golly, she’s done it!
Essence Sugar, a 29-year-old mechanical engineer and dancer from Jacksonville, has been selected as the grand prize winner in plus-size clothing brand Torrid’s nationwide 2024 Model Casting Call.

Essence stole the show during her trip to Los Angeles after making “Top 10” in Torrid’s largest-ever casting call campaign. She participated in a professional model boot camp featuring a full-day modeling mentorship and content creation workshop, according to a release.

As the winner, Essence will be featured in a Torrid 2025 campaign photoshoot, and receive a $2,000 cash prize and a full year’s wardrobe from Torrid (valued at $15,000). She also has the opportunity to sign with a global talent management agency.
Earlier this year, Essence stood out from more than 11,000 applicants across the United States and Canada to secure a Top 30 spot. Individuals were encouraged to vote on their favorite entrants from July 31 through Aug. 7. Those who received the most votes became top 10 finalists.
