ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – A newly expanded St. Johns County roadway aimed at lowering traffic is now open to drivers despite a downpour of heavy rain.

State Road 312 from State Road 207 to South Holmes Boulevard opened Wednesday afternoon. The new one-mile roadway is a part of the State Road 312 extension project.

The project has been under construction since mid-2022 and is part of a larger plan to expand state roadways.

The Florida Department of Transportation’s proposed extension of SR-312 from SR-207 to U.S. 1/SR-5 is still in development.
