According to News4JAX news partners at the Jacksonville Daily Record, the City of Jacksonville has issued a permit to allow the demolition of the old Kmart building at the intersection of San Jose Boulevard and Old St. Augustine Road.

Back in May, the city council approved a rezoning request to allow the Home Depot to build a 132,000-square-foot store on the site.

A permit was issued on Sept. 6 to Ordner Construction Co. Inc. of Duluth Georgia for demolition to begin.

North Florida Waste Management and McLain Site Solutions of Jacksonville are among the demolition team.

The Kmart closed back in 2016 and the building has been empty since then. There’s no word on when the new store is expected to open.
