News4JAX spoke with St. Johns County Sheriff Rob Hardwick in July about whether there was any chance that Haleigh was still alive.
“I always have hope. Sometimes I hope she’s in a better place. Because I’d hate for it to be, you know, sexual, battered or tortured, or not knowing that she was a beautiful little girl,” Hardwick said. “But you look at some of these cases and you know that people can actually survive and be brought home one day. And that’s just one of many cases. So I always hope you know that she comes home.”
No arrests have been made.
Authorities said they still receive tips from all over the nation about the case.
