Smith said their roof caved in after heavy rain moved through the area for several days.

“All of a sudden you just heard this loud boom, and all of this stuff just fell down and fell down and fell down,” Smith said.

They’ve had to throw away their mattress, clothes, and personal items because of the damage.

Smith said this situation has been a lot for their family.

“This is our home,” Smith said. “We should feel safe, we should feel comfortable, and we’re not. We’ve had to move stuff around. There’s no space. The kids can’t sleep comfortably. We can’t sleep comfortably. It’s been a very stressful time for everybody.”

Smith said they have lived in the home for about five years and they informed the property owner that the roof was leaking before this incident but minor fixes were done.

News4JAX reached out to the property owner for comment and after multiple attempts, they did not comment.

The Smith family said they just want this fixed so it doesn’t happen to future tenants.
