JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – An early morning fire in a mobile home in Northwest Jacksonville left one person dead, despite first responders’ efforts to pull them from the burning building.

Around 1:30 a.m., the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department responded to the fire on Cranbrooke Court, which is west of Imeson Road.

When first responders arrived, the mobile home was completely engulfed, and they were told someone was still inside.

Crews broke windows and a dozen firefighters entered the home. One firefighter was injured climbing in and out of windows during the rescue but continued to search for the victim.

The person was found and pulled out of the fire through a window, but firefighters had to cut open the wall below the window to help get them out.

Unfortunately, the person died at the hospital, according to JSO.

The firefighter and two others who had been in the mobile home were treated at the hospital for injuries, JFRD said.

JFRD said in total, six fire engines, four rescue ladders, six rescue trucks and four tankers responded to the scene.

Detectives and the state fire marshal are investigating the cause of the fire. The medical examiner’s officer will examine the cause of death.

Anyone with information regarding the fire, contact the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office by phone at 904-630-0500, by email at jsocrimetips@jaxsheriff.org, or via Crimestoppers at 866-845-TIPS.

JFRD also said a ladder truck responding to the fire was hit by a car that firefighters say ran a red light. No firefighters were hurt, but the unit was unable to respond to the fire with the other crews.
