30K+ customers in Nassau County without electricity after Hurricane Helene leaves downed trees, powerlines

All major roads are open, officials say

NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. – More than 30,000 customers were without power across all providers in Nassau County on Friday morning after Hurricane Helene left downed trees and powerlines in its wake, according to officials.

Nassau Emergency Management officials said they’ve been getting several requests and notifications about downed powerlines and trees, as well as road obstructions since Thursday night. They added that crews were working diligently to remove the tree debris and powerlines from the roads to ensure safe access.

As of Friday morning, there were no reported injuries and all major roads were open including the Thomas Shave Bridge.

The latest update showed 35,538 customers without power across all providers:

  • Ofenoke Rural Electric Membership Corporation: 6,000 customers without power
  • Florida Public Utilities Corporation: 12,728 customers without power
  • Florida Power and Light Company: 16,810 customers without power

Officials said they did not have estimates on the amount of time it would take crews to restore services.

Residents are asked to call their specific provider for specific questions about their service:

  • Florida Power & Light (FPL): 1-866-263-9186
  • Florida Public Utilities (FPU): 1-800-427-7712
  • Okefenokee REMC: 1-800-262-5131

According to Fernandina Beach officials, city offices will be closed on Friday due to issues with their phone and internet connectivity, and power outages.

Nassau County residents are asked to report storm damage to the Nassau County Emergency Operations Center by filling out the form using this link. They can also call the EOC at 904-548-0900.
