Widespread power outages, downed trees & powerlines in Clay County after Helene

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. – Clay County officials are asking everyone to stay home if at all possible on Friday as crews head out to continue clearing debris and downed power lines in the wake of Hurricane Helene.

Officials also remind residents to NOT touch downed power lines or trees that have fallen on power lines.

The county is reporting widespread power outages.

Crews were out overnight when it was safe to do so to clear trees from roadways, and they will be out again Friday morning.

Call the call center to report damage 1-877-252-9362 or report it on alert.claycountygov.com.

Clay County reminded residents using generators during any power outages to take proper safety precautions and use the devices outside.

Two of the county’s five shelters -- Clay High and Wilkinson Elementary -- are closed, but three shelters remain open at:

  • Orange Park High (Pet friendly)
  • Keystone Elementary (Pet friendly)
  • Lake Asbury Junior High (Special needs shelter)

Garbage pickups were completed on Wednesday. Yard waste and recycling pickups were not completed, and crews will finish the remaining routes on Friday.

If your recycling was not picked up, please bring it inside and put it back out tomorrow morning. All pickups are scheduled as usual on Friday.

The Rosemary Hill Solid Waste transfer station and collection centers will remain open Friday if it safe to do so.

All Clay County Board of County Commissioners offices will close through Friday. This includes libraries, Animal Services, parks, and programs.

All Clay County District Schools will be closed on Friday.

Florida Department of Health in Clay County (DOH-Clay) offices closed at noon on Wednesday and remain closed through Friday.
