CLAY COUNTY, Fla. – The trash provider FCC Environmental Services took over garbage services in Clay County on Oct. 1, and some changes will be implemented to help residents with the transition.
Officials said they identified that the Clay Hill area will have a large gap in service between the new pickup date and the old one. Therefore, if the Waste Management pickup day was Tuesday, and the new FCC pickup day is Monday, FCC will be picking up trash in that area on Tuesday, Oct. 1 this week only to mitigate the large gap in service.

County commissioners announced the new contract with FCC Environmental in February, bringing an automated garbage collection service.
Curbside recycling will no longer be available under the new agreement due to “unprecedented cost increases” to residents. According to the county, adding curbside recycling to the new agreement would have increased the cost to residents now and even more over the next 10 years, officials said in February.
Back in August, St. Johns County terminated its contract with FCC Environmental Services less than a month after beginning waste services amid complaints from thousands of residents over service disruptions.

Those complaints included trash left on the ground, incorrect pickups and cans left in the middle of streets. Overall, the county received more than 7,000 calls about service issues and 3,000 complaints on its app.
Following the disastrous rollout in St. Johns County, the Clay County Board of Commissioners met with the FCC staff to address their concerns.
Officials said county staff has been meeting regularly with FCC Environmental Services staff to discuss key factors to ensure a smooth transition.

Debris pickup after Helene
County officials said they are using their debris removal vendors to pick up Hurricane Helene debris, and asked residents to take the next several days to pile their debris by the road.
The county asked residents to not stack debris against trees, electrical boxes, hydrants, or storm drains.
Crews will start picking up debris around Oct. 2, according to the county. Residents must have their debris out by the road by Oct. 7 to ensure it gets picked up.
There is no limit on non-containerized debris these vendors are picking up, the county said.
The county also asked residents to keep their debris more than three feet away from their trash can to ensure a smooth garbage pickup with the new company.
