Officials in Pinellas County said EVs or E-bikes shouldn’t be charged in a home or garage and they should be at least 50 feet away from other combustible materials.

Florida CFO Jimmy Patronis gave advice about preventing EV battery fires before Hurricane Helene landed.

He said they need to be moved to higher ground to avoid salty storm surge waters.

“The saltwater compromises those batteries and poses fire risks,” Patronis said.
