JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Sheriff T.K. Waters on Thursday afternoon announced the recent arrests of two people accused in the attempted murder of undercover JSO detectives last month.
JSO said on Sept. 20, Ja’von Brown fired 18 times at JSO detectives who were inside an unmarked car on Jacksonville’s Eastside.
According to JSO, around 3:30 p.m., narcotics detectives were working in an undercover capacity on Florida Avenue.
Suddenly, the detectives saw a man at the intersection with East 22nd Street, who immediately and “without any interaction” started firing multiple rounds at their car.
Police said the man struck the car four to five times, and they did not fire back.
According to JSO, Brown ran away and then left in a silver sedan in an unknown direction. JSO said the car was driven by Anthony Trotter, who was also arrested.
One of the two detectives inside the car suffered minor injuries and a laceration on one arm, according to JSO.
JSO got an arrest warrant, and the SWAT team surrounded Brown’s house and arrested him. Investigators believe Brown fired into the vehicle thinking he was shooting at rival gang members, not police officers.
Both Brown and Trotter are charged with two counts of attempted murder.
