JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Several Northeast Florida school districts remain closed because of Hurricane Milton, which made landfall near Siesta Key in Sarasota County on Wednesday night as a powerful Category 3 storm, bringing with it 120 mph winds and a devastating storm surge.

St. Johns County
The St. Johns County School District announced it is closed from Wednesday, Oct. 9, through Friday, Oct. 11.
All extracurricular activities, athletic events, and extended day programs are also canceled or closed Wednesday-Friday.
Catholic schools are closed Wednesday through Friday. Visit dosaeducation.org for more information on closures and reopening.
Duval County
Duval County Public Schools announced it is closed from Wednesday, Oct. 9, through Friday, Oct. 11.
Officials said they decided to close schools to ensure the safety of everyone and to accommodate shelters that may need to open due to the storm.
All school activities, including athletics and after-school programs are also canceled during those days, officials said.
After the storm passes and crews begin recovery efforts, the district will make an announcement regarding operations for the following week.
Private schools:
- Jericho School for Children with Autism
- Joshua Christian Academy is closed Monday - Friday
- The Bolles School is closed Thursday, all after-school activities are canceled on Wednesday and Thursday.
- Episcopal’s three campuses are closed Wednesday-Friday. Teachers will send work home with students to complete as they’re able.
Flagler County
Flagler Schools are closed Wednesday, Oct. 9, through Friday, Oct. 11.
Putnam County
All Putnam County School District schools and offices are closed from Tuesday, Oct. 8, through Friday, Oct. 11.
All after-school programs/athletic activities are canceled through Friday, Oct. 11.
Students were already out of school on Monday, Oct. 14, and Tuesday, Oct. 15, for planning and staff development days.
Therefore, staff will return Monday, Oct. 14, and students will return Wednesday, Oct. 16.
Clay County
Clay County District Schools announced schools and district offices are closed on Wednesday, Oct. 9, and Thursday, Oct. 10.
Once the storm has passed and recovery efforts begin, the district will provide an update on Friday’s operations.
The district encouraged all community members to visit Alert.ClayCountyGov.com to make a plan, get a kit, and stay informed.
Private schools:
- St. Johns Country Day School is closed Wednesday-Thursday. The school has a scheduled holiday on Friday and Monday, so classes are predicted to resume on Tuesday.
Nassau County
All Nassau County School District schools are closed on Wednesday, Oct. 9 and Thursday, Oct. 10.
Once the storm has passed and recovery efforts begin, the district will provide an update on Friday’s operations.
Officials encouraged residents to stay informed by following Nassau EM for local safety updates and resources.
Alachua County
Alachua County Public Schools and School Board are closed Wednesday, Oct. 9, and Thursday, Oct. 10.
Bradford County
All Bradford County Schools are closed for students Wednesday, Oct. 9; Thursday, Oct. 10; and Friday Oct. 11.
Friday, Oct. 11 will now become the teacher planning day that was previously scheduled for Monday, Oct. 14.
Monday, Oct. 14 will now be a regular school day for students and staff.
Colleges
UF: The University of Florida closed its offices and canceled classes, including online classes, beginning at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday and continuing through Thursday because of Hurricane Milton.
All academic and student-related activities, including online classes and exams, will also be canceled during that time.
