Meteorologist Mark Collins shares lessons learned from Helene as Florida braces for Milton’s impact

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – News4JAX Meteorologist Mark Collins just returned to Jacksonville after the home where he grew up in Treasure Island was badly flooded during Hurricane Helene.

Now, as the state of Florida prepares for Hurricane Milton, Mark shared some of the lessons he learned while cleaning up the house where his father had been living.

Hurricane Milton exploded in strength Monday, rapidly intensifying over the southern Gulf of Mexico into a Category 5 storm with 175 mph sustained winds, as of 2 p.m.

While fluctuations in intensity are expected, Milton is forecast to remain an extremely dangerous hurricane through landfall in Florida later this week.
