PALATKA, Fla. – On Wednesday morning, drivers in Palatka got an early taste of Hurricane Milton when Crill Avenue was closed because it was underwater.
One poster wrote on social media: “DON’T go down Crill Rd under that little bridge it’s flooded, cars are stuck, water up to car windows.”
“We just left work and going to hunker down,” said one driver who had to detour. “This happens every time it rains.”
Multiple residents told News4JAX they’re watching Hurricane Milton’s path closely and we found a split on who wants to evacuate.
The county is expected to get 70 mph wind gusts and up to 10 inches of rain.
“I see that we actually come to be nosey and see how bad it is. Probably do our evacuation here a little bit later,” said one driver who was out looking at local flooding.
“We’ve been through quite a few. Very scary, don’t know what to expect. But got done as much as we can,” said Debbie Moore who will stay home during the storm. “We are…live a little west of here. Ride it out at home and pray for the best.”
And much of the city’s services are closed.
The city put out a statement: “The business offices of the City of Palatka, the Palatka Police and Fire Department and the Palatka Gas Authority are closed.”
Your option for an emergency is still 911, but for things like flooding, fallen trees, or other problems with the storm, residents are urged to call Putnam County Emergency Management at 386-329-1904.
