Jaguars' president talks downtown development after NFL owners approve ‘Stadium of the Future’ deal

The NFL owners have cleared the way for Jacksonville and the Jaguars to build the much-anticipated “Stadium of the Future.”

Conceptually, it will look somewhat like SoFi Stadium in the LA area -- home to the Rams.

But the deal is not just about a stadium. It’s about opening the door to the future.

Mark Lamping, president of the Jacksonville Jaguars, joined News4JAX anchor Bruce Hamilton via Zoom from London, where the Jaguars are preparing for their second straight game across the pond.

Lamping talked about the impact of the “Stadium of the Future” deal on development and growth downtown and the hope that it will initiate economic and community development in Jacksonville.

Jaguars owner Shad Khan made it clear that there’s been a vacuum in Jacksonville, and he wants to move the needle.

Now that the NFL owners have given their stamp of approval to the “Stadium of the Future,” how can the deal, which includes keeping the Jaguars in Jacksonville for at least the next 30 years, influence the city on cultural and socioeconomic levels?

Lamping talks about that and about the hope of bringing new life to the River City.
