Northeast Florida lawmakers demand audit of Jacksonville USPS facility over lost, delayed mail

These issues have prompted a call for a federal audit

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Customers have reported that important packages are being delivered to the wrong states, and in some cases, mail is being lost altogether. These issues have led to calls for a federal audit of a United States Postal Service (USPS) facility in Jacksonville.

Congressman John Rutherford and four other U.S. Representatives from Northeast Florida and Georgia are requesting an audit of the Jacksonville Network Distribution Center (NDC).

Congressman Rutherford shared his concerns with News4JAX and emphasized the importance of timely deliveries of essential items, particularly medications and checks.

“I’m concerned about people not getting their medications on time, not getting their check on time—those sorts of things,” Rutherford explained.

Congressmen Rutherford, along with Representatives Aaron Bean, Michael Waltz, Kat Cammack, and Buddy Carter, signed a letter to the USPS Inspector General. In the letter, they urge an investigation into the Jacksonville NDC after receiving numerous complaints from constituents about lost or delayed mail.

“I think they’ve got a lot of work to do, that’s why we sent the letter, urging them to try to address these issues,” Rutherford added.

The letter highlights that the Jacksonville NDC is currently undergoing renovations to repurpose it as a Regional Processing and Distribution Center (RPDC). Despite these changes, the NDC continues to process a high volume of packages, leading to growing concerns about delays.

USPS customers are voicing similar concerns.

Brittany Rudd shared her recent experience: “We had an issue with a certified package that just didn’t arrive at all. There was no tracking, and it’s been hard to get in touch with anyone to resolve it.”

The missing package contained a cashier’s check, adding urgency to the issue.

Another USPS customer, who wished to remain anonymous, shared a more unusual story.

“I received a couple of housewarming gifts, and one didn’t show up until 10 years later when my neighbor found it in a storage box for larger packages.”

While some USPS customers reported issues, others noted that their deliveries were on time and without any problems. At this time, it remains unclear if the Inspector General will proceed with the requested audit.
