Jacksonville man arrested for alleged racial slurs, death threats against Jews and African Americans

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Jacksonville man accused of making vile threats to members of the Jewish and African American communities was arrested Friday at his Arlington home.

The Federal Bureau of Investigations searched the home of Nathaniel Holmes on Soaring Flight Way around 10 a.m. News4JAX was on scene as investigators went in and out of that home multiple times.

According to a federal indictment, Holmes faces four counts of threats to kill multiple people and stab one of their children.

All four counts show that Holmes was operating under an alias that News4JAX is choosing not to repeat.

The first count says on Oct. 9 he made threats to kill the first victim. It also says he threatened to stab that victim’s kids to death and described them using racial and antisemitic slurs.

The second count shows on Oct. 10 that Holmes made a threat to murder a second victim. Then on Oct. 11, he threatened to kill a third victim.

The fourth and final count says on Oct. 16, Holmes made a threat to kill Jewish and African-American people.

The indictment did not include any detail surrounding the circumstances of these incidents.

News4JAX Crime and Safety Analyst Tom Hackney says it’s likely that federal authorities got a tip about Holmes’ threats.

“Thankfully it’s just these written threats, but when you start reading those and really kind of digesting it. That’s the kind of hate, that’s the kind of threat that manifests itself into really traumatic things,” Hackney said.

News4JAX reached out to the FBI about this case but they said they’re not able to give a statement.

Hackney shares what he thinks the next steps could be for this investigation.

“I’m sure the feds are looking at people he may know, people he may hang out with,” Hackney said. “Looking to see if he’s a piece or a part of a larger group that feels the same way that could be considering carrying out some kind of violence against any of these groups that they hate.”

News4JAX also reached out to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida to learn more information about the case but hasn’t heard back yet.
