JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – One person was taken to the hospital in critical condition on Saturday after a dredge vessel caught fire near Mayport, according to the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department.
It’s unclear how the fire started, but JFRD said it began around 3 p.m.

JFRD said that the vessel involved is about 300 feet long and it was near the Mayport Basin when the incident happened.
First responders were able to put the fire out quickly.
St. Johns River harbor pilots, Florida Fish and Wildlife, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, and the Coast Guard assisted in the rescue efforts.
