According to Florida’s Division of Elections, over 7 million people cast an early ballot or submitted a ballot by mail ahead of Election Day.
Jesiah Decker, a first-time voter, submitted his vote in Clay County on Saturday and said he feels like he’s making a difference by getting out there and doing his part.
“I‘m going to be 100% honest, I was driving home [and] I was like ’Oh shoot voting is open,‘ so I just came over and voted,” Decker said. “It’s important and I think especially the young generation [who] feels as though their vote doesn’t count, I think it’s important to feel like you participated.”
Decker joins about 95,000 other Clay County residents who submitted their vote either early or by mail. In St. Johns County, that number was over 150,000 and over 20,000 in Putnam County.
Early voting ends in Alachua, Bradford, and Duval counties on Sunday.
