CLAY COUNTY, Fla. – A 27-year-old man from Clay County is facing 15 years in federal prison after the Clay County Sheriff’s Office conducted an undercover operation that revealed a loaded gun, cash, and drugs.
According to U.S. Attorney Roger B. Handberg, an undercover officer arranged a “drug transaction” with the suspect on Aug. 8. The next day, they met at a predetermined location.

Upon meeting, the Clay County Sheriff‘s Office conducted a traffic stop after learning that the individual had a suspended license and searched his vehicle, which led to the discovery of a suspended license, a loaded 9mm pistol, cash, and drugs.
Eleven rounds of ammunition were also found in the driver’s center console, the agency added.
“At the time of the offense, [the suspect] had previously been convicted in state court in Florida of nine felonies, including possession of a weapon by a convicted felon (2021, 2022),” the U.S. Attorney’s Office said. “As a convicted felon, he is prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition under federal law.”
The suspect was previously arrested in April 2024 but violated the conditions of his release and was “ordered detained” on Aug. 15.
No sentencing date has been scheduled.
