JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A day after a Tulsa Welding School student was shot in the campus parking lot on Southside Boulevard, counselors and resources will be available for students on campus Wednesday, the school announced.
According to police, an argument among 10 to 12 students led to gunfire in the parking lot around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.
JSO did not say what sparked the argument, but multiple shots were fired, and a man in his 20s was hit once in the stomach by the gunfire.
He was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The shooter, who is also a student, left the area after the shooting, police said. He is still being sought. He was described at 6 feet, 5 inches tall and last seen wearing a dark blue welding suit.
JSO said another person was detained.
The school and the sheriff’s office said this was an isolated incident and that there was no further threat to the community or the campus.
“We thank our local law enforcement for their quick response to the situation and we are working with law enforcement ensuring they have everything they need,” the school wrote in a social media post. “We will be doing everything we can to support our TWS community through this unfortunate incident.”
The school said resources and counselors will be available for students and staff on campus “to ensure their wellbeing.”
