St. Johns County has 3 schools under construction to keep up with massive growth

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – The St. Johns County School District (SJCSD) is steadily expanding its campus landscape to tackle the massive growth the county has experienced over the last few years.

Three new schools are currently under construction. K-8 School PP will open in August 2025 in Rivertown. K-8 School QQ in Silverleaf and K-8 School RR in Nocatee will open in August 2026.

The SJCSD will have added five new schools over a three-year timeframe once these schools are built.

“We have 600 portables or relocatable in our school system right now, that house around 13,000 students,” Deputy Superintendent for Operations Dr. Brennan Asplen. “And so as we move forward, we want to continue to build our schools so that we can have around 1,500 or less in our K-8 schools as the growth continues at the rate that it is.”

Brennan said there is a possibility that the school district will add additional high schools.

“As we look at our growth and try to understand the age groups of our students in these different neighborhoods, we will need a high school. Which we believe the next one will be in the Silverleaf area. And then we have an elementary school that we think we will be building in the south of the county,” Brennan said.

The zoning for K-8 School PP is being discussed on Nov.19 in two separate meetings.

One meeting begins at 9 a.m. at the SJCSD boardroom. The other is at 6 p.m. at Bartram Trail High School.

It’s an opportunity for parents and community members to get an idea of what the zoning could look like.

“We allow for parents in the community and community members to come forward and give comments, questions, recommendations to those plans as we move forward, to revise and put something together that we are going to finalize at a board meeting at some point,” Brennan said.
