JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Newly released Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office bodycam footage shows an officer shooting an 18-year-old man who was accused of threatening a mother who confronted him over inappropriate texts with her 13-year-old daughter.

The video released Thursday evening opens with G. Robinson pulling into the parking lot of a Popeyes restaurant on McDuff Avenue near Interstate 10.

Cerry Banks stood behind the store as Robinson exited his patrol car on Nov. 11 with his gun drawn and ordered Banks to put his hands up and turn around multiple times.

“Turn your [expletive] the [expletive] away from me,” Robinson said.

Banks visibly put his hands in the air and turned his back to the officer as Robinson continued to give him commands.

Robinson walked closer to Banks and said, “Get your [expletive] hands up before I shoot your [expletive].”

Banks took off running and the officer followed behind him. Seconds later Robinson yelled: “Pow, pow, pow! Gun, gun, gun!”

As Banks ran away, JSO said he pulled out a gun and turned with the gun in his hand.

Then the officer fired eight shots. The chase continued through a gas station parking lot into a nearby neighborhood with Robinson demanding Banks to get on the ground.

At one point, Robinson fell over a fence and lost track of Banks.

Banks was shot several times.

In another video, Robinson returns to the gas station parking lot where Banks dropped the gun.

Officers were later able to track Banks down where he was hiding in a drain pipe.

He was arrested and taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Banks is charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, two counts of lewd or lascivious conduct with a minor, one count of traveling to meet a minor after using a computer to solicit a child, and one count of unlawful use of a two-way communication device.

This incident made the seventh officer-involved shooting this year.

This is an open investigation and the sheriff’s office is reviewing the officer’s actions to ensure they align with company policy.
