St. Augustine businesses ready to shine during Nights of Lights, say it brings ‘half or more of the year’s revenue’

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – St. Augustine is ready to shine as the Nights of Lights celebration is set to kick off Saturday evening.

For local businesses, it’s more than just a festive season—it’s a critical time for sales and community connection.

Small shops, big impact

In the heart of Old Town, Leah Lytle, owner of Artsy Abode, said she is prepared for the excitement. Her shop, like many others, will light up alongside the city’s iconic displays.

“When you go to a concert, what do you want? The garb,” Lytle explained. “This is your Nights of Lights garb, the official garb.”

The event is more than just an attraction; it’s a lifeline for local businesses.

“It is everything to us,” Lytle said. “To have people come in and buy things when they’re here—it’s literally half or more of the year’s revenue for small businesses from November to December.”

People walking through will also likely stop by Ancient Olive Gourmet, where they can sip on something unexpected—balsamic vinegar, not to mention explore all kinds of natural recipes and products.

The store expects to hand out hundreds of tasting cups this weekend as customers explore their gourmet offerings while the business hopes to cash in on its gourmet ingredients.

“We’ll get droves of people—10, 12, 15 at a time,” Domino shares. “You’re not getting all those crazy added ingredients and chemicals from supermarkets,” said Angela Domino.

By Friday afternoon, traffic in the historic district was already heavy as visitors arrived for the weekend festivities. GPS maps showed congestion throughout the area, a sign of the crowd to come.

“This will be standing room only,” Domino said. “A line from the register to the door. It’s all hands on deck.”

Nights of Lights isn’t just a local treasure—it’s a major economic driver. For many business owners, the season defines their year.

With lights strung across trees and storefronts ready to shine, St. Augustine embraces the season with open arms and twinkling brilliance.

Whether by car, trolley or on foot, visitors will find holiday magic—and a warm welcome from the local businesses that make it all possible.

St. Augustine’s iconic Nights of Lights runs from Saturday night through Jan. 26, transforming the historic city into a holiday spectacle.

To make visiting easier, the city is offering a free “Park and Ride” shuttle on most nights.
