Employee at St. Augustine pavement plant dies in industrial accident

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – An employee at a St. Augustine plant died Monday in a work-related accident, according to St. Johns County Fire Rescue.

The accident happened at a business on Industrial Park Drive, not far from State Road 16 on Monday morning. The incident happened at Traffic Material Supplier (TMS), a granular thermoplastic pavement markings production plant, according to the address given to News4JAX.

A spokesperson for St. Johns County Fire Rescue said, “The business makes the paint for the roads. So there was some manufacturing going on in there. So there were some workers around the area.”

A spokesperson for the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office added, “A lot of these details will be discovered through interviews, and surveillance footage, if there’s any inside. So that’s also under investigation.”

No other information about exactly what caused the death was immediately released, but the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
