JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – If you mailed in your 2024 election ballot, chances are it reached election officials quickly.
According to the USPS Post-Election Analysis, 99.88% of mail-in ballots nationwide were delivered within a week, and in many cases, within a single day.
Al Friedman, president of Florida’s Letter Carrier Association, credited the success to meticulous preparation.
“Every letter carrier underwent extensive training to handle ballots properly,” Friedman said.
In Florida alone, postal workers processed and delivered 3.5 million mail-in votes.

Nationwide, the USPS managed a staggering 3.37 billion pieces of political and election mail, slightly fewer than the 4.6 billion pieces handled during the pandemic-driven surge of 2020.
- 99.88% of ballots reached election officials within a week
- 97.73% arrived within three days
- 3.37 billion pieces of election-related mail were delivered nationwide
Friedman emphasized that the system is secure, pointing out that USPS workers handle sensitive materials like credit cards and official documents every day.
“If we wanted to cause harm, a ballot would be the least effective way,” he argued, addressing conspiracy theories around mail-in voting fraud.
Looking ahead, Friedman called for a vote-by-mail cutoff date three days before Election Day to ease pressure on postal workers. Currently, ballots collected up to and including Election Day must be processed immediately, leaving little margin for error.
Friedman predicted more Americans will embrace mail-in voting, citing convenience and the ability to research ballot measures at home.
“It’s safe, reliable, and allows voters to make informed decisions without the rush,” he said.
