According to Wiegand, the teddy bear was named after President Theodore Roosevelt who refused to shoot a bear that had been wounded and tied to a tree in the Mississippi Delta in 1902.
“We’re so very pleased that the teddy bear can be a source of comfort and encouragement for the children being treated at Wolfson,” Wiegand said.
Francis Shoemaker, Rod and Ellen Sullivan, along with their son Brendan, Jacksonville residents and members of the Theodore Roosevelt Association.
“Wolfson Children’s Hospital holds a special place in the Jacksonville community and in our own family’s life. The Teddy Bear, symbolizing Americanism through its association with Teddy Roosevelt, carries a message of comfort and care. We are thrilled to bring Teddy Bears to the children at Wolfson, a hospital that has been so meaningful to us,” said Rod Sullivan.
