According to Wiegand, the teddy bear was named after President Theodore Roosevelt who refused to shoot a bear that had been wounded and tied to a tree in the Mississippi Delta in 1902.

“We’re so very pleased that the teddy bear can be a source of comfort and encouragement for the children being treated at Wolfson,” Wiegand said.
