PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. – Two firefighters were injured Friday morning when a car struck them while on duty at the Safety Harbor Fire Department.
According to a Facebook post from the Safety Harbor Fire Department, the two firefighters were working outside in front of the fire station at approximately 9 a.m. when a car hit them unexpectedly.

Captain Joseph Hans, a long-time veteran with 22 years of service, was thrown a “significant” distance and was airlifted to a hospital in critical condition. According to the latest update from the fire department, Hans was recovering and doing well.
Firefighter Paramedic Craig suffered non-life-threatening injuries and received medical treatment.
A GoFundMe page was created by Local 2267 to support Captain Hans’s family.
