Warthog on the loose closes Jacksonville Zoo on Friday night

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A warthog broke loose Friday night causing the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens to close its doors early as a safety measure.

The Colors of the Wild, a vivid lantern experience event, was cut short to “ensure the safety of all guests and animals.

The zoo said in a post on Facebook that the animal care team was working to locate the runaway warthog that escaped from its enclosure.

The zoo will remain closed through the night. There was no update on whether operations would be affected on Saturday.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office also responded to assist traffic as guests left the facility.
