33-year-old charged with murder of 51-year-old man on Moncrief Road West

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 33-year-old man was arrested and charged with the murder of a 51-year-old man on Moncrief Road West in June, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Police identified Michael Ronald Smith Jr as the suspect in the shooting death of Craig Philip Caldwell.

On June 17, JSO officers responded to Moncrief Road West in reference to a report of a man who was lying unresponsive on the road.

When officers arrived, they found Caldwell dead on the road.

The investigation revealed that Caldwell had died as a result of a gunshot wound, and the cause of death was ruled as a homicide.

After reviewing the evidence, the investigation led to the arrest of Smith on Dec. 9.

Smith was charged with murder in the death of Caldwell and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
