Clay County school board proposes rezoning for junior high schools to accommodate steady growth

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. – Parents of Clay County students should prepare for potential changes, as the school board considers new attendance boundaries for junior high schools.

During Thursday night’s school board meeting at Fleming Island High School, the public weighed in on proposed attendance zone changes for Oakleaf, Lake Asbury and Wilkinson Junior High Schools.

The Clay County School District says the rezoning is necessary to accommodate the growth in the Lake Asbury and Oakleaf areas.

The changes, if approved, are set to go into effect at the start of the 2025-26 school year.

The project could affect the boundaries for students entering the 6th grade at the elementary schools within these junior high school zones:

Oakleaf Junior High:

  • Discovery Oaks Elementary
  • Oakleaf Village Elementary
  • Plantation Oaks Elementary

Lake Asbury Junior High:

  • Coppergate Elementary
  • Doctors Inlet Elementary
  • Lake Asbury Elementary
  • Middleburg Elementary
  • Rideout Elementary
  • Shadowlawn Elementary
Boundary Change for Lake Asbury Junior High (Clay County School District)

Wilkinson Junior High:

  • Tynes Elementary
Boundary Change for Wilkinson Junior High (Clay County School District)

The rezoning may also affect the attendance boundaries or school assignments for some 7th and 8th graders at Wilkinson and Lakeside Junior High School.
