“The pedestrian didn’t yield to oncoming traffic. He was not in a crosswalk. And it’s in a dark area,” JSO said.

A man in his mid-20s was driving west in a Hyundai when he did not see the pedestrian and hit him.

The impact caused the man to be thrown into the oncoming traffic in the eastbound lanes, causing another driver in a Hyundai to run over him.

The pedestrian died on the scene.

All drivers remained on the scene. JSO said the drivers did not show any evidence of impairment, though officers believed the pedestrian may have been under the influence of alcohol.

JSO said a toxicology report will have to confirm that.

This marks the 150th traffic fatality in Duval County and the 42nd pedestrian death.
