CLAY COUNTY, Fla. – The holidays are here, making packages vulnerable to theft. The Clay County Sheriff’s Office reminds residents to secure their deliveries.

According to a CCSO Facebook post, there has been a recent increase in porch piracy incidents in Keystone Heights, Middleburg, and surrounding areas in Clay County.

One individual linked to at least three “porch pirate” incidents has been arrested, the sheriff’s office said.

So, the department shared this reminder to residents:

“So far this holiday season, we’ve received several calls regarding this type of crime. If you can, make sure you’re putting packages inside your home as soon as possible, or some companies like Amazon use “lockers” you can send items to," said the CCSO.

A new Florida law took effect in October, increasing the penalties for porch piracy theft valued at $40 or more, which is now a third-degree felony.
