WWE star may be voted “wrestler of the year” exactly one year after widely criticized arrest

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – It was exactly one year ago when WWE Champion Liv Morgan (real name Gionna Daddio) was booked into the Sumter County jail following an arrest for marijuana possession of not more than 20 grams and possession of a synthetic cannabinoid.

The arrest was widely criticized online as overly harsh for marijuana possession, which recently failed in an attempt to become recreationally legal under Florida’s Constitution.

Eventually, Morgan’s felony charges were lowered to a misdemeanor.

However, the wrestling star’s criminal issues quickly became a thing of the past as she had an iconic year in the world of WWE and won the world title.

The year of accolades may not be over as exactly one year after the arrest, her employer WWE brought back its retro “Saturday Night’s Main Event” program to NBC. Morgan was in one of the highest-profile matches and throughout her appearance on camera the announcers repeatedly said she was a top candidate for “wrestler of the year”.

If that does in fact happen it would be a comeback story seldom seen in society, which began in a jail cell before turning to a world title and a position at the top of her industry.
