JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The family of a 14-year-old who was critically injured in a rollover crash is looking for financial help in his journey to recovery.

The teen involved in the Thursday night crash was identified as Andrew, according to a GoFundMe page that has a $10,000 goal for his lengthy recovery.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the teen was driving without a seatbelt when for unknown reasons, the car veered off the road, flipped and hit a tree at the Interstate 95 exit ramp to U.S. 1.

Andrew was thrown from the vehicle, and his family said he is in a coma with “brain damage, damaged ligaments in his neck, along with other less severe injuries,” according to the GoFundMe.

“He is heavily sedated to give his brain time to try and repair some of the damage. We will not know the extent of the damage to his brain until he wakes up... Please pray he wakes up,” the GoFundMe said.

On Monday, Dec. 16, a family member posted on Facebook that Andrew was showing “small signs of improvement.”

A little over one thousand dollars were raised as of Monday.
