According to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, Chapman traveled from Tennessee to Florida from late 2023 to January 2024. During his trip, he manufactured counterfeit money and used it at various businesses.

In January 2024, a deputy from the CCSO investigated a vehicle in which Chapman was a passenger. During the investigation, the CCSO discovered a loaded firearm, ammunition, and equipment for manufacturing counterfeit money, as well as 78 counterfeit $20 bills and 35 incomplete counterfeit $20 bills.

The CCSO later determined that Chapman was out on bond for a felony firearm charge pending in Mississippi and had previously been convicted of aggravated assault in Tennessee.
