ST. MARYS, Ga. – This holiday season, a couple from St. Marys has taken on a unique mission: spreading cheer by visiting local cemeteries and decorating gravesites that appear neglected.

While walking through Oak Grove Cemetery, the couple noticed broken headstones from the 1800s and other gravesites that seemed untouched for years. Moved by what they saw, they decided to step in and make a difference.

One site now features a small artificial Christmas tree and flowers, while another boasts blue garland, bows, snowmen, and a snow globe.

For Tiffany Hill, this effort is about more than holiday decorations. “It’s kind of sad,” she said. “I feel like a lot of people forget about their relatives, that cemeteries exist. You don’t see a lot of people in cemeteries, so I feel like doing stuff like this can bring a lot more people into cemeteries and maybe help encourage people to take care of them.”

The couple plans to continue decorating gravesites through the week, including visits on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, adding that they will remove the decorations on New Year’s Day to prevent the festive displays from becoming litter.
