JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) announced Monday the arrest of a correctional sergeant on a charge of domestic battery, a first-degree misdemeanor.
Joe Cowan, JSO Director of Patrol and Enforcement, said Donald Boston, a veteran of the JSO Corrections Department with 17 years and seven months of service, was arrested on Thursday, Dec. 26.
Cowan said JSO officers were dispatched to Boston’s residence following reports of a domestic dispute.
According to investigators, an argument escalated when Boston grabbed the arm of a family member. The victim pulled away, resulting in a fall to the ground, though no injuries were reported. Boston sustained a laceration to his arm during the incident.
After reviewing the evidence, JSO’s integrity detectives determined there was probable cause to arrest Boston for domestic battery. Due to Florida State statutes protecting the privacy of family members of law enforcement officers, the victim’s identity has not been disclosed.
Boston has been placed on administrative leave pending further investigation. Boston began his career with JSO on May 14, 2007, and was promoted to sergeant on October 24, 2022.
This arrest marks the 14th JSO employee arrested by the agency in 2024, with five additional arrests of JSO employees made by other law enforcement agencies this year.
“As we have said many times before, no one is above the law,” Cowan said. “If investigators find that there is probable cause to support a criminal allegation of a JSO employee after a comprehensive investigation, this agency will hold that employee accountable.”
