JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The rare winter storm that dropped snow and ice across Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia forced many area school districts to close on Wednesday -- mostly because roads were too hazardous.

With relatively heavy snowfall reported in Brantley, Charlton, Glynn, Pierce and Ware counties, those districts announced that would remain closed on Thursday, as well.

Then Thursday afternoon, Glynn County announced its schools would stay closed on Friday also.

Here’s what we know so far about when local districts will be back up and running:

Southeast Georgia

Camden County

All Camden County schools remain closed on Thursday.

The district said all of its schools will resume normal operations on Friday.

Brantley County

The district said all schools and offices will remain closed on Friday.

Officials said the district will resume normal operations on Monday, Jan. 27.

Ware County

According to the district, Ware County Schools will remain closed on Friday.

“After conducting a thorough survey of travel conditions throughout the city and county, district leaders and transportation staff have determined that many icy patches persist. These conditions present a significant safety risk, particularly for our bus routes that begin before daylight, where icy hazards are harder to detect,” the district wrote.

Schools will resume normal operations on Monday, Jan. 27.

Glynn County

After consulting with local emergency officials and thoroughly assessing the schools and roads for storm-related damage, Glynn County Schools will remain closed to students on Friday.

Staff are expected to report to their designated locations on Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Classes will resume on Monday7.

To make up for weather days, school will now be in session on Monday, Feb. 17, and Monday, March 10, which were previously scheduled as teacher workdays.

Pierce County

The district said it would evaluate road conditions and weather on Thursday to make a decision about Friday.

Charlton County

The district previously announced that schools will reopen Friday.

Northeast Florida

The only local county that did not return to school on Thursday was Nassau County.

Schools and officers will reopen to normal operations on Friday, Jan. 24, the district announced on Thursday.
