The announcement was made around 2 p.m. at the Osprey Plaza on UNF’s campus.
“I don’t know about you, but when you say Silverfield College of Education and Human Services, it just sounds good,” Limayem said, adding that he couldn’t think of a “better family to partner with” than Gary and Lane Silverfield, whose contribution made the renaming possible.
Dr. Steve Dittmore, the college’s dean, also spoke at the press conference and thanked the Silverfields for their generous donation before introducing a student who received a scholarship sponsored by the same family.
“Today is an inspiring day for the future of education, ASL interpreting, and all of the degree programs with the Silverfield College of Education and Human Services, and your gift is a catalyst to the future.”
He continued, “To Gary and Lane, there are not sufficient words to thank you for the incredible investment you have made.”
The Silverfields themselves also gave a few words.
“I want to thank all of you who have spoken, we thank the foundation for their effort and thank you to Dr. Steve Dittmore, who presented the proposal for our family to be a part of UNF,” Lane Silverfield said.
She added that she and her husband Gary have been involved with UNF for years because “education is very important to our family.”
Gary Silverfield said his wife was the driving force behind the donation that enabled their name to be placed on the College of Education, and said he “looks forward to working with the University of North Florida in the future.”
