Duval County inmate dies after experiencing medical emergency; no foul play suspected: JSO

Gregory Miller, 52, died at the Duval County jail (WJXT)

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 52-year-old inmate at the Duval County jail died after a medical episode, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office announced Friday.

Gregory Miller was arrested in April 2023 for possession of a firearm, weapon or ammunition by a convicted felon and discharging a firearm. He was sentenced to serve 120 days in jail on Feb. 26.

According to JSO, Miller experienced a medical episode and appeared to be in distress on Thursday night. He was treated at the jail’s medical clinic but as his health continuously declined, he was taken to the hospital.

He died on Friday.

JSO does not suspect foul play and there were no reports of incidents involving Miller, other inmates, or correctional officers.

JSO is investigating. The medical examiner’s office will determine Miller’s cause of death.
